There are now over 50 British Composers on BML CDs and on a couple of the other labels. The preferred recording technique is to use a single stereo pair of microphones – usually the M&S technique. Additional microphones are only used when, for whatever reason, layout and/or acoustic constraints, prevent a proper recorded balance and perspective.
Some fine performances of non-British music are featured on this interesting label. The issues so far cover a wide field, from Early Music to the Contemporary, from beyond the Isle of Wight, in fact from anywhere - all performed by talented specialists in their particular fields.
Jazz Trios, Quartets, Big Bands etc. are captured with a single Binaural Dummy Head microphone. Binaural Stereo recordings particularly suit quality headphone listening, but the loudspeaker reproduction is seemingly not compromised by Mike Skeet's own particular Dummy Head microphone arrangements. Try them - you are there!
Anything goes with single Dummy Head Binaural recordings exclusively featured. The two special Binaural Experience releases are indeed unique - amazing collections of Locations, Music, Events, Happenings, History and even Humour! Acknowledged superb sound especially on quality open back headphones.
Four exist so far, presenting Steam Trains recorded as never heard before. Dummy Head location recordings, mainly with B&K4006 microphones in Binaural Dummy Heads connected to Tascam DA-P1 DAT recorders. Again particularly suiting quality open-back headphone listening - as Peter Hanford once told me 'I wish I had your gear in the 1950s - 60s'.
