Composers represented include - Jacques Vide, Jacob de Senleches, Baude Cordier, Guillaume Dufay, Pierre Fontaine, Jean de Villeroy and Nicolaus Grenon.

EML011 - BASED ON BACH

This album, on the Ensemble Music Label, has music from J S Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier interspersed with specially commissioned Baroque Realisations by Richard Barrett, Aidan Fisher, Gabriel Jackson, Howard Skempton & Mark Anthony Tumage. These and the seven Bach items are performed by No Strings Attached, a Quartet of Clarinets - Neyire Ashworth, Nick Hayes, Sara Lee & Andrew Sparling. Much to recognise and to enjoy involving the past and the present.

Folies Bergères with French Court and Peasant Music from 1650 to 1750. Great variety from nine composers plus two Traditional French Noëls. Sara Stowe, Jean-Pierre Rasle, Matthew Spring, Emilia Benjamin & Caroline Kershaw with an extensive collection of period instruments performing works by Scellery, Daquin, Lalande, Borde, Boismortier, Marais, Corrette, Chédeville, & Naudot. EML020 - O RAVISHING DELIGHT

The Musicke Companye comprising Philippa Hyde - soprano, Charies Humphries - counter tenor, Jennifer Janse - baroque cello and Helen Rogers - harpisichord, present a collection of Eariy Music Songs and Harpsichord solos from ten composers - John Bow, Daniel Purcell, Henry Purcell. Handel, Gagliano, D Gabrielli, Monteverdi, Strozzi, Albinoni and Durante. There are also two other Early Music CDs on the Ensemble Music Label and a couple involving The Baryton on our EBL CDs.

 

 
 

EML029 - LOCKING HORNS

Contemporary French composer/performer Etienne Rolin has worked with John Kenny for many years and along with Nachiko Maekane, marimba, Mark Depend, percussion/Djembe, John Whiting, sound projection and a Trombone Quartet, Etienne with his Saxophones & Bass Flute and John with Trombone & Carnyx combine over eleven works to show off Etienne's contemporary compositions and one improvisation. The Carnyx also appears on BML016 and BML024.

 

 
 

EML031 - GWYDION BROOKE's BASSOON REPERTOIRE Vol.1

Gwydion Brooke (Joseph Holbrookes son) finished his Bassoon playing career in the late 1970s after a final eighteen years with the Philharmonia including regular solo performances. The works on this release were previously issued on vinyl LP. We have J C Bach's Bassoon Concerto, Mozart's Violin Concerto with his Bassoon as the soloist instrument! Francois Devienne's Quartet in C Op.73 and Anton Reicha's Sonata in B flat. Bassoon playing of a standard that shouldn't be missed.

 

 
 

EML053 - SIRINU: Gentile Spiritus

This 2004 release has 25 tracks of Lute Trios & Spanish Songs from the Segovia Codex. Sirinu are joined by Stewart McCoy, lute, bass lute and viol. The Segovia Codex is a large manuscript, thought to be complied in Spain around 1502-3, which lay in the archive of Segovia Cathedral until its discovery in 1922. Much of the music is thought to be Flemish in origin. Half of the pieces played on this are performed by a trio of different sized lutes, the others have soprano and various accompanimentia.

 

 
 

EML054 - SIRINU: Out of the Orient

Another 2004 release with Sirinu offering Lilbre Vernell - Fourteenth-century Spanish Songs, Songs and Instrumental piece from England, Italy, France and Spain, and Cantigas de Santa Maria - Thirteenth-century Spanish Songs. This collection traces the inspiration of Eastern Musical ideas and instruments on Western musical culture. The influence of Eastern music was consolidated in the fourteenth century to become profoundly absorbed into the Western tradition.
